Bone rigging issue..

I hope I’m not being obtuse here, but was the “Bone” option for parenting objects to bones removed? That is, will I have to apply vertex groups to each bone manually instead of just parenting each object to a specific bone them using the “bone” option (i.e. for a mechanical model)? Thx.

You can parent an object to a bone. Select the object you want to parent; then, holding down shift, select the armature. press CTRL-TAB to enter pose mode, select the bone you want toparent the object to and press CRTL-P -> Bone.

You dont necessarely have to go to the pose mode, you can just select the object and then with shift select the armature and press ctrl+p, then select “to bone” and select the bone.
