Bone Shapes

Ive seen different rigs that have bones that are shaped as feet, boxes, arrows, and other designs, how do you do this?

In the button’s window in editing mode (F9) under the armature bones panel next to hinge/deform/mult there is an OB: field open - type in the name of any mesh object you want the bone to look like which you have made of that purpose . Be aware though that it 's axis will have Y- axis as the default “up” axis even though Blender’s default viewports indicate the Z axis as up - sometime this is important …

Hey…
thats neato…
is there anyway i can change the orientation and scale at which the object is drawn???
thanks in advance

As far as I know, you can’t change things like that. The best you can do is to go into edit mode of the object you are using as a bone shape and change everything in there.
Of course if you want different orientations you have to make multiple versions of those objects.

Actually you don’t have to go into edit mode . Just select the mesh object and scale and orient it the way you want in object mode and Ctrl-A it and the corresponding bone will reorient itself accordingly .
I don’t know why but no matter which viewport I create the object in I always have to rotate it by 90 degrees … If I create my armature in my default (and Blender’s) “front” view (with Z-axis up) it seems you always have to do this … Though if you make it in “top” view (with Y up) you don’t …

thank you, that will help my animation process out a lot guys!

GREAT TIPS! Archai, Thanks for asking, Verthex pusher, thanks for great answers!
