Bones doing things bones shouldnt do...

does anyone know how to fix that anoying problem that occurs in IK limbs (like legs) that makes the knees bend sideways (rather than just back and forth), witch its obviously very wrong?

It seems like there would be a fix for this somewhere. After all, ive seen some VERY nice animations that dont seem to have this problem…

thanks in advance

You rest position should have the knees bent a little (less than half way).

If you’re trying to straighten out one you already have, you might try rotating the base leg bone from top view, assuming top view is looking down.

i use another IKsolver bone which constaints the lower leg bone. this way you have full control over the knee for a “O” to “X” legged walking

Thanks bjornmose; thats exactly what i was looking for!

Just in case im doing it wrong, could you show me your setup?
please?

thanks man

just add a new (unparented) bone to the armature right in front of the knee
name it IKknee.R / L then add a IKSolver constraint to the LOWER leg bone (the one below the knee) and make the target the IKknee bone.
