Book: Beginning Blender - Where to buy?

I’m not quite sure in which forum I should post this…

Well anyway, I wanted to buy this book: http://www.blendernation.com/2010/12/13/lance-flavell-beginning-blender-ebook-review/#utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Blendernation+(BlenderNation)

Not the E-book, but the real book. The problem is, I don’t have a credit card so I don’t know I could buy it at amazon. I also checked other places (ebay), I do have paypal, or could make a bank transfer but than the problem is it doesn’t ship to Europe (Belgium).

So is there anyone who knows a place/way I could buy this book, Beginning Blender (2.5)?

Have you ever tried using a Vanilla Visa Gift Card, they work great for shopping online. I have had trouble shopping online with the Vanilla Mastercard’s lately.

Amazon.ca ships to Belgium (Amazon Shipping) and they have this book in stock (Here). You could also try Amazon EU but I’m not sure how there shipping as I’ve never used them.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hi, go to your local bookseller with ISBN-10 1430231262 ISBN-13 978-1430231264 or book name and Author.
They order it with no extra cost and you get it a few days later.
I do this often in germany but i think the booksellers in Belgium are nice and helpful to.

Cheers mib

Hi. I’m the author of the Beginning Blender book; thanks for your interest.

If you can use Amazon, I would say they are the way to go because prices in different stores aren’t always the same regardless of the fact they should be, and Amazon seems to offer the best price deal. Here’s what I’ve observed:

The paperback book is supposed to have a $50 USD (United States Dollars) retail price (as printed on the back). Here in New Zealand where I live that should translate to $65 NZD (New Zealand Dollars).

However, I went and asked a some local booksellers about perhaps getting the book in (given it’s the town where I live and a number of my secondary school students have expressed an interest in it). Paper Plus gave me an estimate of $85 NZD (which would be $65 USD) and Whitcoulls didn’t estimate… they have it in their catalogue as $91 NZD which works out at $70 USD; significantly more than the “recommended retail” of $50 USD.

I don’t know who’s making the markup here. It isn’t me. I couldn’t find many other books at that price (not even much bigger ones) but then I found that the Apress books on a whole are all around that price whether they be the Apress book for Beginning Gimp, Java or C++.

Still, for this reason I’d recommend trying for Amazon before searching local stores or whereever else the book is sold. Amazon actually have their prices set at less than the official retail price, so you get it for much less again; selling the paperback for around $30 UDS.

I’ve been trying to touch base with Apress regarding some images in the E-book being a bit over-compressed, though I’m still waiting on their investigation response. The paperback has nice chrisp images, perhaps on the dark side here and there (these things are inevitable in full colour books and blender 2.5 interface is… well kind of dark really)

Thanks again for the attention to the book. I’d love anyone who’s been reading the book to add to the Amazon reviews, rate it etc.
