Books On Blender

I want to buy a book on blender. I think im going to get The Official Blender 2.3 Guide. Is it worth the price? Are there any other books out thar that would be better? does anybody here have it? Im pretty new to 3d, and would like to dominate more at it.

i’ve just bought that book saturday and i think that it is pretty good though i haven’t seen the other books on blender. For several months all i have been able to do was twiddling with blender cause i had not been able to figure out much of what to do. I have finally finished my first model based on the first project in the book and made an ahort 2-3 sec walking animation in the first day. Yes it is a little expensive but if you want to get more seious with blender (like i’m starting to be) then this book may be able to help you out. I reccommend that you try to order through barnes and noble or similar bookstore instead of online so you can save on shipping and handling if that what you was originally planning to do.

A lot has changed in 2.4*. I bought the 2.3* before the 2.40 release, and it was worthwhile for me, but I don’t think I would recommend it now to somebody on a budget who wanted to learn Blender. I would suggest you stick with the online manual, which is much more up to date, and follow the tutorials. Especially the Noob to Pro tutorials, which everybody should go through entirely.

Right now, as far as I know, the best and most up to date textbook on Blender is this one:

Which, lucky you, is available for free in pdf form. Download this, print it up, bind it at kinkos, and you’re good to go.

Wow, Thats Great, I will see about printing it out tho. I have a Dual Screen Monitor setup from video editing, so I can just slide this book onto the other screen. Awsome

Back when I started I got The Blender Book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1886411441/qid=1141709265/sr=1-11/ref=sr_1_11/102-9461293-1640107?s=books&v=glance&n=283155.

The guide is more of a reference, but I have the older one so the new version may be different. The Blender Book, however is just a book of tutorials. Step-by-step instruction, along with lots of reference material. However, I’m pretty sure almost all of its contents can be found online for free, now.

One of the longer tutorials in it is how to animate a laser cutting a V out of a metal plate, for example.
