boolean : differnece doesn't work

so i have a piece, i’m trying to cut a X shape from it. i’ve seleced the first piece, held shift to selece the X shape i’ve made (all in object mode) and then hit W and selected difference.

when i’m done, i now have my two original objects, plus another one that is a single object made from the union of the two other objects.

any thoughts?

did you try searching first?

booleans in blender don’t work right now. check in the blender.org testing builds for the boolean for a boolean build to use.
