Boom

I took a tutorial on making a nuclear explosion using the displacement modifier and it looks pretty decent. I want to add a particle effect to this animation to emulate a shockwave. I figured just a cylinder that expands on the ZY plane and emit dusty particles as it goes. Does this sound like the best way to go?

It’s animated already using displacement modifiers. Each element of the cloud gets three displacement textures mapped to an empty so it’s easier to control. I have a bright flash at the beginning as well, I just would love to get the dust unsettling from the ground by a shockwave and the obligatory camera shake, of course. I need to update that texture to look more like a fireball, too.
