Botrous of the Stars

“Botrous of the Stars” is a character inspired by my late grandfather, who used to tell me far-fetched stories of astronauts and space travel during his youth while smoking his hookah(shisha) from which he was inseparable.
It was really fun creating the character. After a quick sketch, i decided to quickly jump into sculpting and implement new ideas as i went along. The costume is inspired by the Star Wars rebel pilot. The helmet is a mishmash of the traditional Arab keffiyeh and a long beard, both worn by my grandfather Botrous. The long nail is also part of my grandfather’s look, which is a traditional quirk common among the Lebanese elders.
The challenges were designing the helmet to look retro-futuristic with a subtle Arab touch.
Everything was Sculpted in Blender, textured in Substance Painter and rendered in Cycles.
