break down make character disappear (I'm hopeless)

I have a character with a blocking animation. When I tried to use Shift+E to add a breakdown and moved the timeline cursor the character just disappears. What the…??! The object was still there. But I couldn’t see the character and the rig. I tried it again and again with the same character and the same rig. Always the same.
The rig was made using rigify. the character is linked
I’m using blender 2.71 on windows 8.

Please help, I am hopeless

Come’on. I now it’s a mysterious. but I realy need help. I would have upload the file. But it is made of linked characters wich can make it a little complex.
