Breaking glass

Hello everybody,
this is simple test of breaking glass by bullet using soft body function.
Glass has been made as one plane - i’ve cut it on appropriate looking triangles (splinters?), set up material and soft body function.
Then i have one by one separated § triangles that should be affected.
Therefore the glass still looks like one piece, even it’s not.
Bullet has set up soft body deflection (so as obstacles can) and when hit the glass…
I hope you’ll find it usefull.

More detailed description you’ll find in .blend file, which is available [```
here.

hey, that’s great, a little work on softer lighting & maybe change the position of the light so the shadow isn’t so obvious. None the less, great work on the shatter and…
Woo Hoo First Poster, hehe,
Welcome,
keep the good work flowing.
M.A.

mind If I mirror this as a tutorial on another site and refer back to you?

Thanks Jadoon for sharing ur technique…blend file too…

To mandoragon:
Of course i don’t mind. If you think it’s good enough as tutorial…

To ecgilboy:
You’re wellcome. Hope it’ll help. I still experiment with this technique (you know, making holes, simulations of tearing etc.) – Blend file is quite primitive, but i hope it’s just first step.

To all:
Bye, jadoon*

Dont you think it would look more realistic if you made the whole glass part shatter?

but it looks nice, work on the lighting though, couldent quite see what was going on on the reders you posted

Blend…James Blend

haha james bond fan…or shall i say james blend

Hey, nice going there. You did in fact inspire me to try my own. Once again, good idea.

Hey though, do you know what else you inspired me to try? In jahka’s particle system, there’s an ‘explode’ modifier. You can precut the sheet to be like glass, then apply forces like gravity and collision to it. It was awesome, you’d love it.

To: James Blend  Well, you should know it’s just a test - i had idea on animation, but i’ve needed to let one character fly through the window and break, but then i’ve realized i dunno how to achieve this effect. So i made lot of tests with Bullet physics, but it did not satisfy. And when i’ve got this idea i’ve made two test and i’ve posted it almost immediatelly in order to inspire poeple (To: BlackBoe I like to inspire poeple  ) - This file toke me less than hour, if i would want to use it in animation, i’d spend much more time of course and make more pieces. As BlackBoe said - it’s just for inspiration.
And you’re right - pictures are too small and i’m sorry for that. I though the 640x480 will be ok, but it isn’t - in the .blend file i’ve linked is this technique described enough (i hope  ).

To: BlackBoe Thanks for message and info. Going to check it out.

Enjoy yourself people… jadoon*
