Breathers of the Flame

Here’s something I made over the weekend. I created this scene using the new preview version (Blender 2.3) from blender.org. The edge loop and optimal subsurf tools are amazingly helpful. The dragons are fully armatured. There are four layers to this scene. There is a little post-processing, namely manual softening of the two background dragons to augment depth perception.

BTW, the dragon’s breath isn’t made from particles – it’s made out of metaballs with halo materials. I used lattice deformation to spread the flames out toward the camera.

Well, I hope you like it

wow! cool!

Cool dragon
One thing, the particles… err… uhmm… could you increase their size, or decrease it’s smoothness, so that when they come closer to the cam, they don’t get all separated and end up looking like little halos… instead of a raging FIRE!

i like the texturing and the modelling, A LOT!

nice work!

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it.

Fred_Pyo, I might revise the flame a bit, maybe through post-processing. If I make the halo too strong it gets less transparent and too dominant for the scene, plus I lose the bottom half of the dragon. I’ll tweak some more.

I hope I captured the character of the dragon in this one. As always more c&c is welcome.

The dragon is wonderful, but the particles are…particleish? That’s just my opinion. GREAT [!]

Good stuff !
The flames are interesting, but I think you’d have better success with ordainary halos with clouds texture.
Are those stars in the background ? Whatever they are, the white dots look very odd and are the only thing I don’t like about this picture.
If they’re fully rigged…can we see an animation ? Please ??

Hey, you sold me. I’m a fan! But maybe you could work on the texture too. It looks a little “thrown on” just for the sake of having a texture. Well, thats my thaughts. I like the model.
