bringing in objects made in Lightwave

I have some objects like cups, bottle, etc., that I made in Lightwave, I know I can export them as an obj file and blender will accept those files…but how do I bring in a file, do I have to do something special to bring that object in?

nothing special at all. In lightwave juss export your model as .obj, then in blender go to file>import>import obj and browse to where your file is, and it will be in blender.

I should have asked that I wanted to bring that obj from lightwave into a scene I am working on. is that possible, I tried append, but when I hit append and click on the file, it is not listed, I see material, object, mesh, but it is not there?

I’m trying to find out the same thing. I don’t think you can just append it, though, it seems like you have to use import. It also seems to act a little differently, if you import it into one file, then append that to the one you’re working on, it becomes unable to be edited. I guess that can be worked with if you don’t need to edit the mesh at all, but I find it constricting.

So, not sure if a lightwave object can be fully integrated or if Blender always treats it as a foreign item. No one’s replied to my question about it yet.

You can only append or link from .blend files. If you have an .obj use import.

Appended objects can be edited, though linked ones cannot.

If you require more control over how Lightwave objects are imported, I would recommend Accutrans.

Especially with more complex LW objects it saved my ‘life’ more than a couple of times.
