broken windshield

does anyone have any techniques or tutorials for modelling a broken windshield for a car. i wouldnt be asking if i had an idea, but i really dont. when a car windshield breaks it doesnt shatter like regular glass, ive no idea how i would efficiently model this.

Pildanovak made a glass breaking script,
I still haven’t had the chance to try it, but it looks pretty realistic and animatable.

hmm yeah does look good, im just whondering if it is ONLY capable of shattering something, windshields crack, they dont break off into pieces like his script shows, ive replied to the thread askin if it can do cracked

Windshields are basically two pieces of glass with a layer of plastic sandwiched in between to hold the glass together when it does break. Since your mesh will more or less stay in one piece, I believe texturing would be the best route. It shouldn’t be hard to get a picture of a broken windsheid and make a gray scale normal map from it using Gimp or Photoshop.

Gimp has a plugin to create a normal map from an image:-

(Please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t a grey scale normal map a bump map?)

im really not a texturer, before i try and make one, is there a place in this forum where i can ask someone to please make me one, or if somebody already has one.
