Hey Blender Pals! I usually never post but have been putting a lot of time into trying to improve my archviz/interior renders so it’s about time I took some much needed constructive critiquing and dumped these all here! Looking for tips to push my renders to be as realistic and polished as I can in a few hours. Big thanks to iMeshh, 3d Shaker for lots of amazing models and huge nod to the Blender Team for creating such a fantastic platform for us all! Thanks for your time! Peace!
Nothing brutal to say. Honestly, these are all really good. Nice work.
I also have nothing brutal to say. There’s too much white for my personal taste, but minimalism isn’t my style and so you should ignore that entirely actually, one thing- I think the wood grain texture is slightly too big for the scale of the rest of the room in your living room shots.
Nice work!
Thanks Joseph, appreciate it! Honestly I was just trying to be as ‘modern’ as possible and I don’t have the first clue about interior design but I agree the renders are a bit cold. As far as the wood grain texture in living room, you are definitely right I did not catch that one.
test' - Copy
Would prefer a night stand instead of the table and apples. It doesn’t feel like a lived it room to me. As someone living in a tiny room I’d probably sacrifice one of the plants for storage. Render looks very real to me.
render 3
Is it a tv or artwork on the wall? No complaints. 1000x better than any living room I’ve tried to make.
wide angle
perfection
sunny living room
again no complaints but I’d like to see a version with something outside the windows.
rendersmall - Copy
I don’t like the lighting.
dof shot2 - Copy
Feels a little too warm.
render - Copy
I don’t like the lighting.
untitled3 - Copy
Too bright and I don’t like the lighting.
1bd apt5 - Copy
Toor warm. I’d try white balance / color temperature adjustment. The right most chair feels like it’s floating. I’m not liking that open door area. Other than that it looks great.
bedroom render - Copy
Looks great. I don’t really like the sky outside the window that much.
Couch view
Looks great but it doesn’t feel like the sky from those huge windows is having an effect on the interior.
I don’t think any decorator would have a problem with the realism quality of these renders.
My brother, thanks so much for your very constructive and positive feedback!
On render 3 - it is a piece of art on the wall but the frame definitely looks a bit funky.
I’m going to do some work on getting good exterior photos to composite into these renders… they’re all meant to be urban apartments but I’ve been too lazy to attempt using background photos recently. Been leaning heavily on my plugin Physical Sky/Atmosphere which I think can achieve really great results…but lots of opportunities to make things look fake and cartoonish…
…Tried to re-render this one to get a bit more vibrance… Rendered one version w/ physical sky background, one with a sky hdr and then merged them with hard light in photoshop…
They all look very good! Better than I could do, but I did notice a couple of things…
dof shot2 - on the left, if that’s supposed to be a kitchenette area, you might want to add a sink. Those are nice to have when cooking.
render - What’s the cylinder sticking up from the couch on the left? A scratching post for the cat?
1bd apt5 - as mentioned, the chair is floating. The open door is way to wide. Wait, I see the problem with the floating chair. The chair looks like the frame runs under the seat, then only front legs, and a base that extends underneath the seat. Move the chair closest to the camera to the left, and floating chair maybe to the right so we can see the full frame? Maybe a small amount of light from the direction of the camera would help too… IDK…
Like I said, great job!

Crammed, jammed and blown out!
1st image test copy … that bed and headboard, plus poster, plus that f’n sharp light and that grossly oversized mirror (serious, why?) with it’s scalped frame is soooo blown out of proportional hierarchy to that bleak dark cornered depth … please stop. K?
2nd image render 3 … wow that right side under scaled tiny ‘cabinet thingy’ and that grossly blown out couch … again stop.
3rd image wide angle … can you squish this anymore? Those ceiling lights are hilarious! POW! That top left one … wtf? Wow … again stop. Insanely boring!
4th image sunny living room copy … forceful over powered vertical rectangles please … stop.
5th image rendersmall Copy … stop with the perspective drama! Insanely blown out. Is that a shipping container???
6th image dof shot2 Copy … whatever. … again with the crazy perspective crap. And those sharp slamming white lights … please stop. Just look at that left side cabinet, lol! Tiny enuff?? What is it … 100 feet away???
And the rest of those insane heavy handed perspective images with those disproportional interior ‘stuff’ … STOP! PLEASE STOP! That 10th image bedroom render Copy … another shipping container??? Stop, please stop.
No concept of scale nor depth nor lighting hierarchy.
What a brutal ride.
These look like a lot of effort went into making these!
I would suggest playing with the lighting a bit. Right now most of the images look a bit flat lighting wise.
I’d also suggest using some imperfections, make it look like the place is actually lived-in.
I hope this helps!
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
Teeheehee love you bro. Pour some extra Tabasco sauce onto my heart and in my eyes…
Thx Bart- I appreciate it! Hope you have a great weekend!
Looks amazing and so beautiful
The bookcase contents look like a photo, perhaps more normal strength and displacement.
Good job!

Thanks Marton, appreciate the suggestion and your time looking…
For these renders I mostly used the Physical Starlight & Atmosphere to act as the sun and supplemented with the light coming from the ceiling fixtures and I guess floor lamps. What’s your suggestion for the best way to make the lighting more dynamic looking?
Are these all done in cycles? Really nice renders!
The only thing that jumps out at me (and I’m no expert) is the view out of some of the windows. Having something other than the sky would really add something I think. Some trees, branches etc.
Thanks so much my friend! Yes, all done in cycles. I know it would be nice to have something to look at outside. I’m doing all of these smaller interior renders for urban apartments in metropolitan cities, so there’s usually not much except other buildings to look at from most windows… Going to dig through some of my photography to find appropriate images to push the photorealism even more. Coming soon…
I’d suggest choosing a main light source… If you have the sun, and all the lamps on then you just have everything lit up. If you choose a main light source you can draw the focus of the viewer to a certain area.
You should use references when modeling windows. Size, proportions, mechanism etc… there are quite a few things wrong with them.
Of course, real windows of poor quality exist, but these interiors look luxurious enough to have something more correct.
The proportions of the rooms are strange too. Large volumes and relatively few openings.
I don’t know anything about masonry, but I see a lot of blocks (on the walls and ceilings) that seem totally arbitrary.
