Bug in Brick Texture ?

Hi
I still don’t understand the logic behind the Brick Texture for Cycles.
I did ask this question one year ago but I didn’t get an answer (old post: http://www.blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?216113-Brecht-s-easter-egg-surprise-Modernizing-shading-and-rendering&p=2191762&viewfull=1#post2191762)

This is why I decided to open a new Thread.

For now it looks like this (it’s wrong from my point of view because the offset value should be transformed per every row (Frequency 1 to 4) not only the first one):

It should look like this:

Am I just wrong thinking or is this a Bug ?

Kind regards
Alain

To report or to not report a Bug, that’s the question

Does anybody know an answer to the question ?

Kind regards
Alain

I think the logic behind this, is that with frequency 4 only brick 1 and 4 are shifted. Frequency 3 shifts 1 and 3. and Frequency 2 shifts 1 and 2. I don’t know if it is intended this way…

Frequency:N shifts every Nth row. Therefore, 1 shifts all bricks, 2 shifts every other brick and 3 shifts every 3rd brick.
I’m pretty sure it’s by design, most people would probably only need Frequency:2

OK, there should just be a checkbox to enable “Shift per Frequency”.

How hard is it to code that ?

How do I do the following pattern (it’s very often used in Architectural Visualizations) ?

did you check these

http://www.brick.com/md/index.htm

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Tutorials/Textures/Texture_Types/Brick_Patterns

shoudl be same with cycles
i’v seen one for cycles but don’t remember link!

happy cycles

I have used the acme brick designer alot.

Well I think if there is a bug in the brick texture it is on the corners: perpendicular mortar lines as you can see below

Since brick is a 3D object I should see the other face on the corner, with the same colour too.

Sorry, here is the attached picture:

Can you please answer my question, how can I get this pattern (none of your posts does answer it) ?

I wanna use it for floors as well and not only for bricks.

Kind regards
Alain

try this one

brickteturecycles1.blend (585 KB)

happy cycles

This doesn’t answer my question.

I wanna an offset of 1/3 each row like shown here: http://www.pironi.ch/images/drittel.gif

Is this possible, yes or no ?

Kind regards
Alain

is it this

salut

Looks like drittel is 1/3…Was it German?

Yes it’s german but your patterns are not 1/3 per row. the third row is concruent to the first row, which is wrong.
Please look exactly at my example.

The offset has to be 1/3 per row: First row no offset, second row 1/3 offset, third row 1/3+1/3 offset.
Do you understand now what I mean ?

Kind regards
Alain

set offset at 0.666
i think this is giving same pattern then in your pic

happy cycles

What could i more say… Now, just now, i really do… :(…
Since it does look there is no such thing as a Frequency=1, it does look impossible.
