I’m new to Blender. I made it in my second month of learning. I don’t have any art background. What do you think? What should I work on to improve?
Welcome to BA
This is impressive for just your second month! You’ve done good work with the detail level and modeling overall. I think your textures could use some more detail- specifically, dirt, grunge, rust, surface imperfections, etc. I think a brushed metal would look really good on the main body, with a lot of wear and tear on the helmet. He looks very smooth and clean- two things that are difficult to achieve in the real world, especially for a hard working guy like this
Also, since you’re asking for critiques, I’ve moved this to the Focused Critiques section
First, I have to say the design is great.
But I have some technical knowledge I can give that the model may need. If I am seeing correctly, the rings on the arms look bevelled and smooth shaded. When doing that, you will encounter a problem: the curved shading of the bevels will bleed on the flat faces and make them look a bit curved:
There is a way to fix this problem: the weighted normals modifier. You will have to activate auto-smooth on the model first for it to work. Then, you just put the modifier on the object, choose if you want to keep sharp edges and the bevel’s shading will be improved.
Also, one of the rings on the forearms is different compared with the others, so it probably has some sort of modeling inconsistency or mistake.
