//////////////// UPDATES AT BOTTOM \\\\\\\\\\\
Well this is my work flow, it might not be the best, but I know most of you are going to leave alot of good comments and ideas for others. I want to eventually turn this into a tutorial on how to start a project so, every one give me ideas and it would be like we all writing the tutorial -=)
Step 1: The hardest step, the idea.
Sorry i can’t help you there…I can’t tell you what to make. I also teach web design and get the question what should I make a web site on? Well do something you like. I like cars, trains, jets, rockets and so on. If you like rocks go model a rock, and if you like rocks you need to get out more.
Step 2: The Sketch.
In every field of design Sketching is key. “But I’m not good at drawing!” I’m not telling you to draw I’m telling you to sketch. I don’t care if you do stick figures. Sketching gets your ideas out from your head. When its on paper you can tell if its going to be good or bad. If you don’t sketch and jump in to Photoshop, Max, Gimp or Blender in our case. Your going put a few hours work into your project and then be like “This $h!+ looks like crap!”. Not always but most of the times. Bam heres my Sketch.

Yes its a Train Dur! You don’t have to color it i just did that so you guys can see what I’m going for. I might even change it and put a city in the background. I know I can model the train in Blender I need to find a grass tutorial and the Background can be done in Photoshop. Ok it looks good to me, onto Blender.
Step 3: Modeling
Depending on what type of train it can be easy or hard. Bullet train easy Chu Chu train hard. I know alot of you use to look at Shining Time Station when yalls was kids don’t even try to lie.
Screen Shot 1

Go to the side view make an out line of the train then go to front view and extrude.
A bullet train would be perfect for beginners to model I think.
Screen Shot 2

Ok It might be to wide so i got to shape it up a bit and finish the sides. At this point DO NOT START PICKING COLORS! Alot of people start picking colors don’t do it I will tell you why just now. My train is white cause I increased the light(lamp) energy.
Screen Shot 3

So I’m still far from finishing the modeling and already playing with the lighting and camera angle.(Why? cause I can) I put a cube under it to look like tracks, moved the main camera into position and turned it from 35mm to 18mm to get a cool angle. If you render with Blenders default material it looks gray, turn the light energy up it turns white. Right now I’m still fighting to find a good light setup. I hope Obiwan, Syn, or someone else would wright a good lighting tutorial already. Any how read this post http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?p=868434 some might say yes some say no but it works better then not knowing here to put the light at all. Let me get back to modeling and i shall update this later.
Leave comments! If I don’t get none I will get bored and quit!
