As you can see on the picture abow the legs are a bit blurry. How can i mage them look sharper?

uv map him/her, or change the “map input”

But i also want the bumps. There is no bumps in the blurry part. Why is that?

I think there are bumps but you can’t see them, because the matirial is distorted. I think you should really try UV mapping.

I agree, but can someone tell me how to bump map?(haven’t got the slightest clue how to) So can someone tell me on this forum?

I dont think that you understand. It’t only when i use the bump mapp texture that he gets blurry. If i dont use it he is just blu. I dont think that UV Mapping him will make his legs sharper.

simple, UV map the bump texture then.

the legs do have a bump texture on them. If the bump map was mapped correctly, it would appear to be the same as the head.

Try UV mapping using “standard” (underneath LSCM unwrap) if that doesn’t work, your leg faces would be too long. In that case, add an edgeloop ([ctrl]+[r])

is it possible that there are fewer vertices on the legs so the texture is being stretched more in those places? that’s my newb guess anyway. also check the textures “map input” settings (flat,sphere, etc…)

I think not. Blender’s build in subsurf algorhythm only supports subsurf-level per object. The only thing you could do is make the base mesh for the tentacle have the same vertice dense as the head.

The legs get blurry only when you apply the bump map because the blur IS the bump map. The bump map is being distorted on certain parts of the mesh because you have simple mapping on a complex shape.

This problem has nothing to do with the number of vetices on any part of the mesh. Notice that the map is also a little distorted on the sides of the head (while the top is OK).

You should try other mapping types (options are: flat, cube tube & sphere).

UV mapping is recommended because it allows for the most control . . . but can require a fair amount of work to apply correctly.

Dont mind the bad texture, this is just a fast test. I will post the finale image soon.

I have no idea how this could have happened, but after i had tried UV mapping and tried normal procedural textures, it worked!

The UV is the coordinates on the image, when you replace the UV image with a procedural, the coordinates will still be the same

Now i have made some changes to the face. Please tell me what you think.

My plan is to let the octopus hold a pitchfork with a fish on it. How can i make it look like it’s under water? I also want it to look like a cartoon image, is there anyway i can achive that?

I don’t think those fish would swim so close to an octopus with vampire teeth and a forked tongue . . . :wink:

Keep working on the environment. Try to get that underwater look, and add a sandy bootom with some plant life.

There is a water refraction map generator. Someone posted news about it, but I can’t find it anymore. Maybe someone else knows, where to get it? It think it would really help for an underwater scene.
