BWGMC - Blender Weekend Game Making Challange

My friend and I are organizing these weekend challenges, if you want to join in just send me your gmail address and you will be added as an author of the blog so you can post yor progress.

The rules are simple, make a game in 2 days while posting your progress and once finished post your source files.

The challenge is to finish a game in 2 days, everyone that finishes a game is a winner. But to make it interesting, after the challenge we will organize a voting to find the best game made.

Winner of every challenge has the oportunity to decide what is the theme for the next weekend.

The second challenge begins tomorrow so what are you waiting for ?

The theme and genre for this challenge will be announced tomorrow by me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Even if you don’t finish a game you can still learn a lot from other people and from their games. :eyebrowlift:

PM me your gmail address if you don’t want other people to see it and if you have any questions or something just ask them here.

The blog is here:

no money for winning

Sell your game if you want money. Its just a challenge, you don’t pay anything to get in, and you don’t get any money if you win.
I don’t understand why do you expect to get paid for something like this?

For me was a valid question Josip, contest somethimes pay back, simple as that.

He did not ask anything. Its a challenge not a contest with sponsors and stuff. We do this for fun and we do it for free. The point of this is sharing our knowledge.

I would like to join your challenge, hopefully you will get some people interested. There is a section for contest here on BA that you might want to use instead of a blog (maybe use the blog if people want to post there update (I probably wont post much while I’m working), and also the winners and they’re games). If you host the contest here, more people will see it and want to join. If you host them on BA I will join, but if you just use the blog I’m not that interested. As I wont be using the blog I see no reason to give my gmail. I hope you take this into consideration, and that your challenge will prosper (unlike the few failed attempts at frequent game challenges).

That is not a problem, actually its a good idea. We can host all the source files, screenshots and stuff on the blog and leave the development side here on the forum. We will see what we can do.
Oh, and welcome to the challenge!

Ill join, i need to practice blender more.

 I join. This will spawn something that will be on IndieGames. Mark my words.

Are we using blender 2.59 ? or 2.57 ?

Thank you for joining in, it is a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Also having to make a game in just 2 days makes you plan things ahead and that is very useful later when making bigger games.
You can use any version you want but I must recommend the latest version.

These first few challenges may seem a bit unorganized and the rules a bit undefined. But we just started and as we progress we will try to define more rules to make it more fair and fun.

For this challenge you can create a thread in the WIP subforum for your game.
Please name your thread like this: BWGMC 2 | ‘Name of your game’

The theme for this weekend will be announced by Bagylender tonight at 20:00 (UTC+01:00).

I hope you all have a lot of fun and keep us updated.

Here is an update on the rules.

I would like to take part. I’ve sent @BagylenderFC-amp-BS a PM.

Welcome to BWGMC2.
Be free to join us and have fun.
I’m right now update theme and genre for BWGMC2.

Guys, we have theme. Let’s start working.
And to everyone who sent their email addresses, the rules have changed and we will use the forum to post our progress.
You can read the details on the blog.
I wish you all luck !

… Man, I rather wouldn’t have created a fangame, which is what this will have to be with Disney in there… EDIT: I’m not really sure how we could do this without it being copyright infringement unless we call it ‘Shmisney’ or something.

. . . Hands off my idea! LOL

Well its just a fangame, I think everything will be fine we just can’t sell these games.

I posted on the blog, but I’ll post here, as well.

By ‘must not match’, you mean that it doesn’t HAVE to match, right? ‘Must not match’ gives the feeling of the game having to be different from your initial idea.

Perhaps each visitor can only vote for games other than their own? Also, the voting should be done on the forums to prevent random people from voting, I’d think. However, maybe this isn’t necessary.

Finally, I would assume that we are allowed to use external Python modules, but not code from other games. Right?

Thank you, I corrected the mistake. English is not my first language you I make mistakes all the time.

I have not yet decided how to handle the voting part. We can do it by making people leave votes in comments or making a poll on the blog for each category. Voting can also be done here on the forum but it limits the number of people who can vote to just BA.

A poll on the blog will allow people to vote even if they don’t use Blender. Games can be created in a way that allows us to embed them using Burster and make them available to play to anyone.

Its up to you participants to help us decide on what rules you find most useful and how do you want to handle things like voting.

SolarLune, your replies are very useful and I hope to hear from you again.

Edit:
About external Python modules, the original idea was to create a game from scratch but we can change that if you guys feel that its too limiting.

i think 2 days is a short time to do a game…
