Cabin in a swamp - Update page 3

Maybe it’s best you customize that sign, It’s okay to follow tutorials but in a work like this try hiding it.

Looks good, but ATM it doesn’t look much like a swamp %|
Besides what you and others said, I would have grass in the water, and make your trees in the background taller.
I would also add more, smaller detail on the water surface.

Thanks for the link to the water tutorial.
Adding another texture layer with smaller details is a good idea.

I’m moving to toon shading, since the ray tracing took too long and since the scene might be used in a Flash animation.

Now it takes just a minute to render, while the raytracing was taking about an hour.

The trees are next, then I plan to get back to that previous list of things.

Any toon tips are appreciated.

how are the pillars attached to the beams? …

may want to add some nails or something

Here’s some pegs to hold up the beams.

hmm, change the colors of the water back to blue, add textures to the building, and more detail, the trea’s look too 2D, you’d better use the treascript, or beast script.

Nice. I like the toon shading, especially on the water. You are going to texture the cabin model right? You can have nice and detailed textures and still have it toon shaded, and looking all cartoony. I think there’s something not quite right about those trees in the backround. I think they look to rigid or something. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the replies.

It will probably take a while to find a water color and texture that are perfect.
I like the texture of the blue water, but it seems maybe too blue to match the rest of the scene.

The trees will be replaced with something less complex that could look like it was hand drawn.
Just got to find the right style for the leaves.

The cabin will be replaced.
When I modeled it, I was not thinking of texturing, and it turns out that its not easy to UV map that.
I made another cabin that should be easier to UV map.

The procedural textures I’ve used look too realistic when I try them.
Does anyone know how I could make a procedural texture that has only 2 or 3 colors?

if it’s finished it will just go smooth into gta:vice city! no commends exept that the normal shading makes the water look way better.

Here’s an update. I’m moving more to toon style.

Another update. Trying different types of leaves.

I think you should do a render with realistic lighting after you finish the toon one. The water was looking great. So was the rest of the scene. I clicked to the next page and saw that you changed it to toon shading and I thought, “Aww, man!” Not that there’s anything wrong with toon shading, but it was looking really good before. Still looks good now though.

You could even add a few plants on the water, such as lilly-pads or something of the sort. Also, the distant section seems empty; maybe some trees or a thick forest would help fill it in. It looks great though.
