Here, I decided to focus on a cup of coffee and some chocolates. Although a simple scene, I played around with lighting and materials and even explored with film production. Enjoy!
The texture of the dark chocolate is PERFECT. I can see that it’s very hard, almost reflective- the dust and shavings give it a very realistic air. It makes me sad how many people A. don’t like dark chocolate, and B. think chocolate is soft and waxy and sticky sweet. Hershey’s is all of those things… but good dark chocolate looks exactly like yours and I love it. Lovely work on the composition and lighting also!
You know, I thought the same thing and researched a lot of different renders and actual chocolates. You are right. I wanted to get a better result and lighting always plays a huge role. But to tell you the truth, the material node was key. I had to place with the reflections (a minimum) and refraction to get it right, especially in the film. It’s one thing to have a still image, it’s another to show the results in the film because it reveals everything. Oh, and btw, the film has not PSD, it’s pure from Blender! Go Blender!
