What you see in the top image is the image formed on the screen in the camera I modelled.
It’s a simulation of a simple camera.
Obligatory suzanne (shiny ones to follow):
When you see DOF in these pics, or camera bloom, it isnt an option I have chosen, its just simulating what actually happens in the camera. Moving the lens or reshaping it changes the focal point (very hard to pin down!).
Have you tried a pinhole camera? ie get a nice upside down image on the back of a virtual box? I’d be seriously impressed if that worked.
The problem with a pinhole camera is that the rays need to be traced through a tiny tiny hole. It’s bad enough with a big lens, but a pinhole would get barely any light and take years to work.
This is one better than a pinhole cam, its gotta trace the rays through a lens. Oh, the pics are upside down, but I’ve flipped them. They are the wrong way around left-right too, that gets confusing!
