Camera Mapping questions

Hi, I’m only a few months into learning Blender.

I have my photo all chopped up in Gimp, and the pieces modelled in Blender.

  1. Should my projected image be an emission shader or diffuse?

  2. My projections look pretty decent, though obviously fake. I’ve modelled quite a lot of the geometry; it’s the ‘flatness’ that ruins it. I thought maybe a normal map created in crazybump or whatever might help… Is this a solid way to approach this?

  3. Any other tips to make my camera projections believable would help me enormously.

thanks for reading.

Hey, thanks Eppo; that’s so weird, I’ve just posted a question asking how to ensure my BLAM results are oriented the right way round! thanks for the answer though…

Any tips to making my image textures not so flat?

Yea. And i guess without image it’s not possible to suggest anything. Neither here, nor over that other thread :(.
But some procedural noise to Output node, Displacement, via Math Mul sometimes does the trick. Image…

hey, sorry, having trouble uploading my image. I guessed I would have to add displacement / normals etc; just wanted to make sure…

When I calibrate the camera using Blam my grid is way out; the tutorials I’ve seen using BLAM, the camera is always near perfect. I’ve lost all idea which way the x, y and z axis are meant to be.

Hopefully this blend file works…

…Another blend file with a bunch of grease pencil lines floating in space…
