I’m not too familiar with the blender game engine system, so I’m still experimenting with it. One problem I’m having is that, if I set up a camera to be parented to an object (in order to give a first-person effect), the camera’s position changes upon starting the game. what is the cause of this and how can I fix this problem.
Thank you very much.
Andy
If you could post a blend we could have a look:yes:
Here is an example with a car and a short track. Basically, the problem only occurs if the car is made the parent of the camera, which I suppose is the ultimate goal if I’m trying to make it first-person.
What I havn’t done yet is downloaded the FPS example available at the beginning of the Game Engine forum. I bet I could learn something from that example file.
Thanks
Andy

This is what happens when Zarnik is bored
I don’t know what you did, to parent the camera to the car. First select the camera, hold shift and select the other one. Then when both are selected press ctrl + p…
Btw check out this…^^

Well, I parented the camera to the car just as you said, but it’s still the same. The only difference that I can see between your example and mine is that your camera has a time delay on the parent feature, but that didn’t seem to have anything to do with it.
Weird, I got no clue. Try to make a new blend file…maybe…reset the default settings.
It seems correct to me?!
The camera only follow the car movements, I guess?!
By the way, your track have many useless polys!
Bye
I made a duplicate of the car and put it off in the distance so that it would be visible in the camera view when the game starts. However, upon the starting the game in the camera view, the second car is not visible at all, leading me to believe that the camera was never moving but, instead, the car was becoming invisible for some reason upon initiating the game. To experiment further, I created a cube and a plane and put them off in the distance, finding that, regardless of the textures or settings applied to the cube and plane, they too became invisible upon starting the game. I can tell that they are invisible and not completely gone because the car is able to hit them. Furthermore, this effect only occurs in the camera view. All of the objects are visible if the game is started from any other view.
Attached is a modified version of the game. The track has been simplified.

Hi hixidom,
You forgot to apply scale & rotation to your car.
Select your car. Ctrl + A Key >> Apply Scale and Rotation to ObData
Clark
That worked. Have you had this problem before?
Thank you very much.
Andy
I’m having another [unrelated] problem. Would it be better for me to post this problem in a new thread?
The problem is that, if I try to make a location constraint actuator for the car, the limit type always defaults to ‘None’. I can set the limit to something else, but when I move my mouse across the screen, the limit changes back to ‘None’ automatically.
Thanks.
Andy
Hi hixidom,
I’m going to guess that you haven’t upgraded to Blender 2.48. The location constraint defaulting back to none was a bug in 2.47 but it was fixed in 2.48.
Clark
Wow, you’re right on the money. Thanks again Clark, you’ve been a great help.
