This is an admission test for school so its gotta be perfect. Be harsh and fair.
They say:
“Use any 3D software, model, light and render your model from two different camera angles. Send a wireframe from both angles aswell, viewport snapshot will do fine.
…
Your images will be judged upon originality, realism, texturing, lighting, rendering and modeling(topology), however, texturing is not necessary.
…
find a reference image of a camera however you like, example internet or take a picture yourself.
Model the camera according to the reference image. Send your reference image along with the print. Precise measurement is nor required, main features are whats important.”
They also say that if i submit anything that is outside their rules they will ignore me completely… so i gotta sell the model without fancying up with surrounding stuff, i am not sure if i can use lens effects or not, i have mailed them and asked.
All feedback is very welcome but i am mostly looking for crits on composition, lighting and setting.
This is kinda my make or break project so its fairly incredibly important.
All the best. /Fredrik Larsson.
First impression: Excellent!
Is that blender internal? Did you fake the refractions?
Perhaps a different background color (say a darker grey) would make the top right outline clearer. Alternatively, a weak backlight could give some rim…
definitly external.
Nice! Better lighting would be nice though… three point perhaps
i dont think your ‘typo’ in the product name will do you any favours.
Yeah, I don’t think that’s a good idea either.
Aside from that all I can say in my inexperience is it looks great I’d suggest posting wireframe images too so that people can comment on the topology, considering that it will be a factor in judgement.
Anyhow good luck with your application!
I really only have one crit, and that is the Brand name on the side…are yuo sure you meant “PENISonic”?
Heh. I personally think “Penisonic” is hilarious. Considering the purpose of the project, it would probably be best to use a slightly less controversial name.
Beyond that, I studied your image for a few minutes. I read the rules you provided over and over. I can find nothing outside of the parameters they provided. The only piece of valuable insight I MIGHT have is to render an image with the viewscreen of the camera open.
Unless the model looks bad from another angle, or your topology leaves too much to be desired, turn the project in. Good job.
I Like The first impression…
Perhaps work on the camera position(Specifically use the “rules of thirds” i think its called)making it more appealing…
(id) remove the “fireflies”(white dots){making this a use of external render engine}, so it contributes to the realism part of judgement…maybe in photoshop or gimp
What disturbes me is that inset in front beside the holes… (what is its purpose???)… maybe just design???..
Make the backdrop… darkgrey… aprts of the camera are fading/blending into the backdrop(my opinion!!!)
Definitley love the detail you have put into the image(specifically the modeling of the camera)
"Product Model nr.: HDC-“SD"60” …does that SD mean standard Definition…maybe change it …(
Another thing is your supposed to focus on the camera but if you scan the image you see (that popping) red text which is in fact not distinguishable at first . you have to focus on it and all in all it is just distracting(in my opinion)
I hope you didn’t turn it in yet since you can still improve(i hope!!!)
Good luck and keep up he good work!!!
It’s either an infared light for the night shot mode or a flash, not sure.
Totally forgot that Infared Light… i thought they are smaller and not as exposed(hmmmm) never really cared for that since i avoided night shots they seem so green and make my eyes look weird(what ever)
BTW: it can’t be a flash since the flash is right above the Lens(i think???)
Looks good to me but as long as we are being harsh, the light along the top of the camera is super intense. It’s completely white along the top so I think it’s a little overdone. Best of luck getting in!!!
I have decided to make the red version instead, as it will be easier to make it pop against a background.
First image also changed, because i render to the same file.
Metal is not right, as the HDC sd60 has a glossier material on the metal surface, however, the metal presets look alot like plastic, as in the first image, and the shinymetals reflection can not be blurred, i am no pro at luxrender, if anyone knows how to achieve the look i am going for, please do tell.
i intend to put it on a stand of some sort, or on a velvet sheet.
I will consider changing the typo, but it might score me points to be original and at least put a mark on the person judging this.
i mean, who can avoid sniggering at it when discovering?
Make a larger render!
oooo very nice model
glow is a bit much though
i agree that you have overdone the bloom…and maybe there are still to much firelies…either render longer or just photoshop them away… i also miss some of those caustics or reflections( i’m not sure) you had in front of the camera on the gray version you had before…
(in my opinion the weird light spot on top-center edge of the image … and also near that spot there are some violet pixels… either just fix it in photoshop or take the time to fix it and re-render…
How long was the rendering of the image??? just asking…
Great modeling work you did there…
