Camera Tracker

I’m going to be doing some work in the future where I’ll have to combine live action with computer graphics. So I’m obviously going to need a motion tracker in order for anything to look good.

I know the two most popular ones are Voodoo and Icarus, but I don’t think I could use these. Voodoo isn’t Mac compatible, and Icarus is a little old (does it run natively on Intel Macs?) and can’t be used for commercial use.

Is there anything else out there?

Are you asking about free software? If so those are the only free camera trackers out there that I’m aware of… There was however one in development for integration with blender, but I think development has stalled for the moment.

A quick search gave me these commercial trackers:

  • 3D-Equalizer
  • Camera
  • SynthEyes Camera tracker Provides widely used tools for camera tracking, motion capture, object building, object tracking, camera+object tracking, multiple-shot tracking, tripod (2.5-D) tracking, zooms, lens distortion, light solving, RAM playback, rotoscoped object separation and more.
  • PFTrack Image analysis and match moving tools for the film effects industry
  • PFHoe PFHoe is an extremely cost effective DV tracking application for Mac and Windows, aimed at DV hobbyists and budding CG artists.
  • 2d3 boujou
  • REALVIZ MatchMover

I guess I’ll just have to run Voodoo under VirtualBox then. Thanks for you help.

I’d heartily recommend spending the $300 on Syntheyes if you have commercial needs, it works very quickly and has versions for all three big OS…

If you can afford it, I would really recommend PFTrack. It’s one of the best out there. It’s level of accuracy is unparalleled in my opinion. .
