I am tracking a short clip, but generally following the process in Blender Guru’s tracking tutorial (though it is not the only resource I’ve consulted). In short, my render shows nothing in my scene, only my background footage.
I am using 2.64 on Ubuntu, but I have had the same problem on Windows with the same version.
I added the trackers, solved the camera (0.3281), and then went into reconstruction mode. Therein I set the floor, origin, x and y axis. I returned to tracking mode and clicked “set as background”. I went to 3d view and hit 0: the background was not applied. I opened a second window, set the background, and then discarded the second window. It worked.
I clicked “set up tracking scene” in the movie clip editor, then tried to render: it only showed the stock footage. I returned to 3d mode and then verified my cube and light were on the foreground layer (they were), and the plane was in the background (it was). I went into the compositor and it showed that the render layers were blank.
Ive tried numerous ways to render my scene, including adding a second camera. Nothing seems to work. Could someone please help me?
I agree that it seems to be “broke”. Compositing is clicked on, all the nodes are hooked up properly and you definitely have an output for the compositor. But you’re right: nothing is rendering. Weird. Everything is set to “renderable” . There are no errors in the system console either.
Thought maybe you needed to have materials, added one. No change.
Light is on both render layers.
Switched to Cycles and it doesn’t render anything there, either.
Scratching my head here- will keep thinking on it.
Could you post the image sequence somewhere? Not that it matters, but…
That makes me feel much better about my efforts! I was afraid I was doing something overtly wrong. As a Blender neophyte I can live with doing something subtly wrong.
I did that because that file is from when I tried to re-do everything from scratch on a new computer. I had originally used the VSE to render out the image sequence and simple added it there on habit before realizing I needed to use the movie clip editor instead.
But why is the render layer showing blank because of that? Is it for some function or feature that I am unaware of? If so can you point me in the right direction so that I can understand why the VSE interferes with render layers?
If you are using the vse and there is no scene strip, blender will not render because it knows that the render will not be used in the final image. This is for cases like you mentioned above… you don’t want blender rendering your scene for each frame as you convert your movie to pngs…it would take forever.
However, if there are no strips in the vse, blender will render anyway because it assumes that you don’t just want to see an empty image.
I shot it with one of work’s flip cams, and adjusted the settings until I found a minima of solve error. Everything in the scene seems to be in proportion to each other, so I am assuming that the sensor size was off. I didn’t know enough about my camera to meaningfully tinker with that setting, so I tinkered with focal length.
