Yeah, you could come surprisingly close to matching Painter’s output with Mixer. It’s not quite as good at generating masks, and it’s missing a couple of handy features here and there that make things a little quicker to do, but it’s nothing that can’t be compensated for with a bit of extra busywork.
Thank you for information, so do you think that It is useless to buy a Painter?
No. Painter’s still the overall better app. But if you’re strapped for cash, or don’t feel like getting pulled into another subscription, Mixer’s a solid alternative.
Yeah i don’t like the subscription, but i found version on Steam (Perpetual).
Maybe that will worth.
That’s the one I bought here a little over a year ago.
The downsides to the Steam version is that you have to pay full price again to renew your maintenance license once your year is up if you want the latest versions, and it’s future is somewhat up in the air at the moment.
The upside is that you do get a copy of Painter that’s yours to keep forever.
Ah man, i hate this Adobe politics.
Anyways, thank you for informations.
I still need to get around to trying Mixer for texturing. I have Painter 2021 (Steam version) and that does everything I need at the moment so I haven’t had any reason to try alternatives.
If Adobe hadn’t offered a discount to previous Painter owners then I probably would have switched to Mixer just for UDIM support since that was missing in Painter 2019.
What I’d suggest is getting the trial of Substance Painter and try texturing the same assets in both. If you prefer working with Mixer, use that and save some money. If you prefer Painter, get the Steam version.
