Hey there I was reading this question on game-artist.net and was wondering if there was a way to bevel or chamfer a vertex like how he is doing in Max (ie see his work through image here).
Thanks for your time.

hi, i redo a mesh like the pics that you post it, but i didn’t found the sense to chamfer the vertex.
In blender you can chamfer or bevel a vertex if you apply a Bevel modifier and then select just vertices
Did you chamfer for getting this same mesh?
Thanks speaker_mute,
I’m not exactly sure how you used the bevel modifier to bevel only the selected vertices in your dome picture, I can see how you did it in the first 2 pictures but they’re affecting all the vertices. How did you do it so it only affected the selected vertices?
Also I’ve tried another way where I selected the 2 edges that join with the vertex to be beveled and subdivided them. Then I selected certain edges and deleted edges & faces. Then rebuilt the faces to this…
But I’m getting a slight pinched look…
how do I remove that so that it’s nice and smooth?
Thanks again.
ok, lets do this.
And for fixing your mesh just delete the edge across and select all vertex and press F
Posted this on your cgtalk also. This was my idea.
use the bevel addon.
do u mean bevel modifier MmAaXx?
can it modify certain vertices in a model or does it do all vertices?
And yeah thanks thedaemon, but wont that make a slight ridge horizontally and vertically across the dome?
So far I’ve found this final face setup have the smoothest result…
Not if you either move the edge loop out on it’s normal axis or smooth out the vertices with a relax.
