i think i may have asked this before, but for a much older version of blender (2.49 i think). now i’m using 2.62 and i want to know, can Blender render a file that is recognised as an image, but is animated like a GIF picture? i want to put up an animation i did that is almost 300 frames long on a website called Deviantart, but i can’t upload it as a video, nor do i realy want to.
what should i do? i don’t realy feel like putting 300 images together in photoshop, which is the only way i know how to make GIF’s
No, Blender can’t export animated GIFs.
Personally I use Animation Shop, which came bundled with Paint Shop Pro. It’s a bit wonky to paint in, but for putting sequences together it’s great. I don’t have a clue about the legal status of the software… it seems like Corel has dropped it since they acquired Jasc and Paint Shop Pro.
Here’s an article with some other solutions http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-gif-animator.htm
I guess I should mention that Gimp has some sort of animation support. It’s possible that it’s absolutely fantastic, I’ve just never tried it.
Gimp can do it by open images as layer and save as gif opens dialog with “Save as Animation”.
Cheers, mib.
imagemagick
In Animation Shop I can set the “hold time” of each individual frame, is that possible in Gimp?
i know that if i use photoshop, i have to put all the frames into the one image, but this animation has 300 frames, it’ll take forever. is it the same with gimp? i have gimp, but i don’t often use it. is there no quicker way? any files that blender can export that will save the frames as layer already perhaps? (i know that’s unlikely, but it’s worth a shot XD)
imagemagick is faster than gimp and allows you to work with more memory, I haven’t used it on windows…
there are probably relatively small applications that are available that are command line driven for windows that will do what you want.
it is just a matter of typing a cryptic command to get the desired output.
I would bet theres probably some free gif maker out there
is imagemagick free?
imagemagick is free as far as I can tell from the website
In GIMP just do file -> open images as layers and it should do it for you. From there you can just save it back out as an animated gif.
i didn’t know gimp could do that. thanks!
I recommend that new users read the animation section in the blender documentation first. It is written for an older blender version, but it is more informative than this tutorial, and most of the information in there is still accurate. Imagemagick is a good option to make gifs images, but i will like to suggest you a better online gif creator “gifmakeronline”. This has some very advanced features and allows you to created animated gif gallery from images available in your flickr and Picassa accounts…
