Can blender run on a virtual machine / cloud server?

I was thinking, since my laptop is pretty much crappy and I need a powerful system to use blender to prevent lagging and crashing, would it be possible to run blender on a virtual machine?

Your question is a bit vague:
There are cloud servers which are virtual machines but for most blender render farms which use GPU-rendering this will be pure physical remote servers or a container solution with hardware pass-through (more performand than virtual machine). But it’s also possible to us it in a virtual machine. This also aplies for CPU-rendering.

(Assuming you ask because of your Laptop in the other thread…)
If you want to use a remote machine like the solutions for games (playing on a high-end computer and using your own as a simple streaming client/remote) because you want to build something then this is a different question. But also possible.
