Can extruded cuves be used for boolean?

I only just started using blender and tried to get as far as possible watching tutorials and searching in forums, but I just can’t find a solution for this one-

I want to ‘stamp’(?) initials and a symbol on a handle (-for dental custumized tray).
I made 2 curves using inkscape and extruded them, turned them into meshes and checked wether they are manifold (1 is 1 isn’t) - but when I try to apply a boolean modifier it completely messes up the handle and I just don’t know how to fix that.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? :confused:

Boolean Modifier in Blender is not perfect. Many times you have to clean up the mesh by hand.
