Can I Get a GMail Invite?

I have been wanting to use GMail for a while, so I decided that I would actually try to get an invite from somebody. If any of you are willing to give me an invite to GMail just PM me the information I need to know.

Thanks.

I don’t think you need GMail invites anymore, but I can send you one if you PM me your email address = )

Great! I’m now set up with GMail. Wow, I feel foolish. I guess the FAQ page on GMail needs a little updating.

Now you can see for yourself that it really has nothing to offer, apart from being very slow. Amazing what good branding can do. A well loved name like Google can come up with anything on the www and everybody raves about it.

What is it about Gmail that’s so fantastic?
The 2gb of storage? I don’t think there is anyone on the web that does not have more than that on their local harddrives.
The fantastic search facility. Really, just about any free email client has had that for many years.
Furthermore, most free email clients will give you a host of features that is simply not available on a web-based email client. Better yet, Google does not get to see all my emails when I store it on my own hdd.

So really, I would still want to hear what is so cool about Gmail. I’ve asked this question from many people, and have never received an intellegent answer. I’ve even got my own Gmail account, but have thus far only used it to send invites to other people.

you can use the calender, online shared documents. and a few other things…

I use gmail as a backup store and that chat thing is quite snappy because it can be used from anywhere.

I

I mostly use my Gmail account for upload space- I’m really not a fan of turboupload, etc. (I haven’t used the email part of my google account for quite some time now)

free chat, email largish zip files, chat, pagecreator, photo library & lot’s more.
The spam filter is one of the best, I feel all my data is safer with google than on my pc. Google has far more protection than windows firewall. After all they unofficially own the entire internet. There is not a search engine that rivals google, why would their mail service be any different.
Google supplies plenty of things for free as soon as you have a free account. Some are not so good but mostly they provide useful tools for free. They use Python for much of their coding and openly support Open Source Software. Unlike many large software companies.
No doubt they supply much of this to offset profits for tax purposes(but who cares). They are also aware that advertising is their dollar, so providing these things for free, can indirectly earn them money but still benefit the community.
They also support Blender in the summer of code. Piccasa and Sketch Up are also handy free tools.

The best part of gmail is the proper threading and fetures like that… Also gloabal roam is great since i travel a lot. Its also a lot faster than Hotmail or yahoo and the spam filters are much better. When I’m cursed with a slow connection I can switch to HTML only and not worry about security firewall. Finally i never need run another buggy bloted emial client again.

Definitely the threading.
I don’t really use the star system but I suppose it could be of great use.
It’s actually quite fast here and I like the fact of having my mails available to me anywhere I am.
P

I like the fact I can access it from my programs very easily. I’m using it in a few progs I made in python.

Guys, ebow3d’s question was a rhetorical one. No need to answer it.
At any rate, all the features gmail has, others have as well, that’s true. At least google openly admits they scan the mails. Others usually don’t.

there was a whole scandal with google, and i think it was posted here, about privasy laws violation, if i find it ill post it up…thats one of the main reasons i don’t use it
btw, goggles search engine doesn’t have any diff. from yahoo… and speaking of that, yahoo had image and video search far before Google did

I have been using yahoo mail, but now I’m in the proccess (I’ll get 'round to it eventually) of switching to gmail, largely because yahoo hasn’t -as far as I know- got any way of for copying everything to my hardrive (in case I loose the account one way or another). The free POP access is pretty much my only reason for switching.

Well i use gmail just for junk mail, it the address i use when singing up to non important websites and stuff… and the email i put in where i know im going to get spam…

The spam filter is the best of all e-mail services I’ve tried. And the way you’re e-mails and replies are stored as “conversations” is something I can’t live without anymore- pure genius! That’s really enough for me…

So, thus far, the only advantage mentioned here is the mobility factor: you can access it from anywhere, being web-based.

And the spam filters, the conversations, the easy access from programs, the responsiveness and the pop3 access.

Stupidity like that is the kind of thing that makes me want to leave BA.
