Can I import wav or mp4 files into Blender?

I’ve had an idea for a short film and was wondering if Blender is able to import and run .wav files or mp4?

If it can how is it done?

Yes. Blender can only use WAV files. Press F10 three times to see the sound buttons.

But I have imported 2 avi clips in blender as animated material.
