can I use a mesh to select

Can i take a mesh to act as a selector for vertices? or did I miss something…

do you mean use a 3d object to select every thing inside it?

if so, no its not possible, but would not be to hard to write a python script that would do it, just dont ask me though :stuck_out_tongue:
but do you know about the border select?

press B once and you can select things inside a rectangle, press B twice and you can use a cirlce to select vetices. press num + and - to make it bigger and smaller.

%| Nope… haven’t used it yet. Thanks for the tip!

hmmm,…sort of. try this.

Errr… that doesn’t help me

But thanks anyway

What exactly did you mean with a vertex group? A material index in the edit buttons?

Cool trick BTW.

actually, you don’t need vertex groups, just use ctrl L to select all vertices of your tool object.

True, but I’d still like to know if you can group vertices without making material indices for them

Yep you can do it. It’s in edit buttons unless it has moved. ( I don’t know where anything is since the new interface, you might have to look around. )

It’s in the first panel from the left in the Editing window (F9).
