I’m planning to sell my first 3d model and I’m confused about the use of images from google for my own benefit.
let’s put on context: I’m doing a f1 (mp4/4) car that has some sponsors, ex: Marlboro, honda, shell…etc
Can I use the logos of these brands on my car and gain some money for that?
Im very confused about the world of copyright and i don’t want to mess up with this…
It would not be a good idea…
Corporations that have their Logos Trademarked, can and sometimes will enforce the Trademark and copyrights and ask either you or the Host site to remove the product…
I had a drawn image removed from a store of a Marine Brand Harmonica…They came down hard and stated in no uncertain terms that they can and will prosecute any use of the name " Marine" in any situation… There are a lot of corporations that are following right along with this…
Better to add imaginary sponsors, that can in no way resemble a corporate logo.
( I do understand that you will see this in products and images all the time, but why risk it? Better to be safe and not start a possible infringement on your part.)
thanks for the reply, to be honest i want to try to upload the model with the sponsors and if something goes bad i will immediately retire the model

Well, you sure went from “I don’t understand copyright and don’t want to mess up” to “never mind, I’ll just do what I want and take it down if I get in trouble” fast. Why pretend to care about copyright or trademarks if you don’t? Seriously though, just make up your own logos - there’s plenty of free images/icons you can use out there, you don’t even have to be that artistic to make it work.
Also, those aren’t even “images from google,” those are complete company logos! That is VERY different from taking some texture from a picture you found on Google,* there is no gray area there - you really aren’t allowed to do that, especially for a commercial product. Besides, I’m not sure the legal risks of using your model commercially will help your sales since the buyers would need to retexture it to be safe, assuming you can even find buyers for such a niche model.
Fun fact, the TV show Heroes got sued by a company that makes garbage disposals because their logo was visible in a scene where a character sticks her hand down one and gets sliced up. That was the actual logo on an actual product made by that company - but they still sued because their logo was visible and they didn’t like it. Some companies don’t screw around when it comes to their logo.
(* Google is not a source of free images, it is merely an image search engine that indexes images from other websites. Grabbing an image off Google is no different then stealing it directly off the source website)

That won’t work. Ludwig is a real company that still exists. As for the Beatles, they may have disbanded as a musical group but their trademarks and copyrights are still very real, and very protected. Even the dead Beatles have estates with legal power over their intellectual property rights, as trademarks and copyrights don’t go public domain after death. As recently as 2019 the The Beatles sued over trademark infringements regarding their logo in Florida.
I’m also pretty sure that a logo doesn’t go public domain just because the company that produced it no longer exists. Chances are someone still owns the rights to the logo, and it isn’t public domain. Even Blender’s logo isn’t public domain.

It wouldn’t be the craziest misinterpretation of how copyright works, so I could definitely see someone young and inexperienced making that kind of mistake.
