Can multiple faces be scaled with a local reference point?

I mean: when in editmode, if you extrude a lot of individual faces and then want to scale them down by the same amount, if you do it while they are all selected, its scales it as a group, so rather than staying where they are, they come closer to each other or further apart(I know you all know this, but to make my point clear). So: can you scale it in a way(such as when you use “individual object centers” as reference in objectmode) so each face will scale as if it was individually selected?

As far as I know Alt-s is as close as blender can come to this functionality at the moment. The feature has been requested many times.

I’d love this as a feature as well… I’t could perhaps be made to work with the proportional edit somehow… (would need coding… can’t be done now)
