You can try the “Mirc” irc client http://mirc.com/get.html, or get “X-Chat” http://www.silverex.org/download/
Personally I recommend X-Chat which you don’t need to register. Also, it’s better.

You need JAVA runtime to use the chat, though. If it bugs you, that means you don’t have the JAVA runtime. Anyway, by typing /nick yourname will change your nickname (in this case to “yourname”) in the irc chat. Java runtime can be found here.
