As has been noted, the spotllight settings ClipSta, ClipEnd, and Bias are crucial for getting
acceptable looking shadows. Is it possible to animate these settings? If so, how is it done? I’m trying to bring a spotlight from the “floor” to directly overhead. Frankly settings that work at one end don’t work at the other.
Likely not for those parameters, although it would make so much sense.
Select the spot.
Go into the IPO window and click LMB on the button with the light bulb icon.
The names of the parameters are all there to the right.
Also, if you place your pointer in the lights button window and hit Ikey there are about 5 parameters that can be set.
I’d like that anything that is set with parameters in Blender could be animated and that all IPOs could find a place in the NLA. The last wish is in the TODO list of Intrr : God knows when it will find a place in the official Blender, if ever, but maybe in Tuhopuu ?

BTW, one possible solution would be to make completely overlapping copies of that spot and put each of them on a different layer.
Give to all the exact same animation
Set the 3 parameters you need differently for each spot, so it’ll cast good shawdows at least for part of the animation. Using layer animation pull the right ones at the right moment.
Kind of complicated but if you absoluletely needed it…
