I’d like to put a blur filter on a varoni crackle cloud texture and apply to nor (to make bubbles) and animate its Z, Can this be done with texture nodes in 2.5? Is there a better way?
there is no reason whatsoever to blur a noise texture, just use the “ramp” option on the voroni and make it look blurred.
Its pretty tough to make a steep enough ramp for crackle! I’ll try that again, I really think that a blur and then combine with the original is what I want. I’ll try with material nodes.
Haven’t played with texture nodes in 2.5 before and its a bit discouraging how much has been left out, eg, no plugins etc.
just add blur wiht the composite nodes!
should be easy to do!
check out video from Blenderguru on the Rain it shows how to use Blur nodes

Thanks for the idea RickyBlender but I want to use the blurred procedural texture for NOR as well as color, so I would like do this before the render. I also wonder if I could use this to drive displacement too eventually. I want to use a procedural texture because when you animate z it looks like it is boiling! Very cool effect.
I still can’t get a ramp to blurr out the crackle!
I’ve wanted to blur a node-based texture, too. No, I couldn’t find any good way to do it. (Ramping (a) only works at all if the initial texture is sufficiently smooth and (b) even then doesn’t give the same effect.)
Best wishes,
Matthew
