Basically I would like to know if it it possible to include all image, video and texture files used in the scene when saving within the .blend file. I would like to be able to carry the .blend file over to another system and not have to re-assign every image or video file to whatever it’s been used for. If my memory does not fail me, there used to be a feature like this in previous versions, but I’m using 2.77a and I can’t find it.:spin:
Thank you.
Those are in file menu -> external data. Individual external assets also have a pack option in the editors they’re manipulated/used, usually a small pack icon next to a datablock name, but could also be an option in a menu.
The files need to be saved on the disk. New or edited files won’t save automatically with the .blend. Video files won’t pack at all.
Thank you. I think there used to be an check box in previous versions in the save window, wasn’t there? I may be wrong.
It’s a pity it won’t pack video files because that’s one of the type of files I was mostly interested in. But it’s weird because I have just tried that feature packing a .blend project with a bunch of video files I’m editing using blender. It turns out the .blend file is a whopping 1.2GB in size (I assume it has packed the videos given the size). But when I open the project on the other system the video files are nowhere to be seen and I end up having to manually find the files, copy them over to the other system and then use the find missing media option.
I guess my best option is to be a bit tidier with my personal file management scheme:o and use relative route options instead.
Thanks again for your answer.
Man i just ran into this problem so i was working on a project were i use the movie clip editor to track a image sequences and when i saved and open the .blend file all the images was not saved. My question is this you say external file which one should i use if i check the first pack all to blend file will that work? or is there more stuff i need to do. Im just very frustrated because i worked on a project for hours and it didnt save the image sequence in the movie clip editor. and if i add it againg it dosent like to the original tracking please help
i hope i made since sorry for my bad writitng basically all i want is to save my project and when i reopen my project all the image sequence is attach. Im just not sure cause its not image or texture but image sequence to track so i dont know if that the same thing
Blender saves files in a temporary location by default, chances are that your files are probably already gone.
You can go into the properties panel in Blender and then go to the file sub menu, you can choose where you want Blender to save things like sound, images, textures scripts etc. Everything is saved in the temporary folder if you don’t choose any locations, your files might still be in there but Windows (if you’re running Windows) regularly cleans it.
Hi
Windows do not clean the temp dir…You need to clean it…
