Hello,
my PNG file has a gradiant fill:
But in blender (added as “image as mesh plane”), it has sharp edeges (I am not allowed to paste more than one image).
I am using “workbench” render engine, because all my objects are flat (it’s 2d animation project).
How can I fix this?

Welcome …
AFAIK the workbench renderer is a very simple renderer and does not support textures , what you see in the viewport when setting Viewport Shading to Sold and also use Color: Textures is not the workbench renderer because when switching to Rendered the image disapears.
See by using the slider:
I apologize, but I am not able to set Blender properly. I tried to set it as on your images, but I still get sharp edge.
Sorry for such incomplete data, but I cannot provide a complete screenshot.
What do I have to set in order to fix my issue?

Change from workbench to eevee or cycles.
Maybe there is a way to do this in workbench, I myself love to use that engine.

In fact i just imported your image as plane and was wrong with the texture features. Indeed it simply works… (using 3.6.12) :

I don’t recall how to work the rotations and so on (UV / Normals…) but it seems it looks like this for me
Still no success This is what I get with a fresh download of blender 3.6.12:
Is there a simpler open source tool I could use for live animation of plain, simple, ordinary images? All I need is scaling, rotating, moving, playing sequence of images.

Maybe if you upload your blend file with external data packed ( images ) or here is one i made agai n… (with 3.6.12)
workbench2.blend (110.1 KB)
Thank for your reply.
Texture edge is now gradiant indeed, however object background is visible. How do I make it transparent?

By not using the workbench renderer ???
I mean when selecting the WB renderer you can not even add any shaders in the shader editor… it’s used to show you the simplest Viewport Shading after Wireframe … just simple Solid … no transparency…
So… indeed you may use somethig like (for example) :
for your project ???
Thank you for your reply.
I was able to do ALL that in Blender 3.
So I’ll find a tool, that will suit my my needs (and my level) instead. A real-time animation of pre-prepared contents.

When I change colour space to AGX or Filmic ones I kind of get what you have
or maybe you have a colour ramp between image texture node and bsdf node

Ohh… by change i came across this:
Workbench is the draw engine that powers the solid display mode.
