Can't get Luxrender to work.

Yes I know, a noob question, but I have been trying for days searching all over and still cannot get this to work. I just need to know how to get Luxrender installed on my computer so the luxblend exporter will work inside of blender. I have already “installed it” using the .dmg file that I downloaded for my mac from the luxrender site: http://www.luxrender.net/v/dl_mac However I cannot get this to install. It never shows up in the blender exports/render window when I split the screen and pull up the python scripts window. I have read through the instructions and did everything the instructions told me to do. I checked you tube for video explanations, I’ve been to multiple site locations and cannot get this installed properly. I know this has got to be something simple that I’m just not doing right, but I don’t know what that could be. Please do not give me any links to more instruction sites, because I’ve already tried that. If someone could please just give me a step by step instruction on how to make it work, I would really appreciate the help. I’m still using Blender 2.49b

I don’t know the Mac file layout. However you can try to load the plugin manually:

  • check the LuxBlend file location (or download it from the LuxRender site if you don’t find it on your drive)
  • open the file with Blender text editor
  • run the script

At that point the text editor frame should have been replaced by the LuxBlend frame. If it doesn’t work, check any error message on the python console.

You don’t mean to open it with text editor, you mean the scripts window. The instructions say Scripts -> Render -> LuxBlend exportor. This is what I never get though. The only option is ‘Save Render Layers’ I’ve installed it the way the websites have specified, but it won’t work for me.

Okay nevermind, I got it to work, I had to rename a directory in my Applications/Blender/ Directory. The exporter finally shows up and LuxBlend is now active. I do have another very important question that I posted the other day about Render Farms in this category if you’d like to see that one instead. Thanks for your time.

I have been trying to solve the same problem with trying to get Luxrender to load into Blender. I get the same result as you. What exactly did you change to get it to work? You said that you renamed a directory? What directory? and what did you change it to?

I Never got mine to work too

Asuming everybody in this thread is talking about Blender 2.49, I would suggest the following steps:

  1. open the LuxBlend python file in Blender’s text editor (not scripts window) and press alt-p. If the LuxBlend interface doesn’t show up, you’re not using the right script. If it does show up, go to step 2
  2. create a folder in your file system, for example with the name “blenderscripts”
  3. in Blender’s user preferences, File Paths tab, put the path to the folder you created in the Python Scripts field
  4. press the re-evaluate scripts button on the right of the File Paths field
  5. save Blender’s user preferences (ctrl u)

If this doesn’t work, please report back here or (preferably) on the LuxRender forum

When running LuxBlend the first time, you’ll need to set up the paths to LuxRender and an output directory, so that LuxRender can be launched automatically.
