Here’s my issue. I’ve been following the blender beginner on wikibook trying to get a hang of the program. Everything was pretty much understandable and easy to follow. My problem is I get to the page where they make a very basic human. I did what it said, and made this guy:
No problems as of yet. So I click on the next page and the tutorial basically says to add the subsurf modifier and it would make something like this:
What I got instead is this:
So my question is how would I get image 1 & image 3 to look like image 2? I can’t help to feel that there was a step missing between the two pages, or I skipped something. I’ve been reading the two pages over many times last night with no progress.
It looks like you have an internal face between the different cubes. If you have, delete them. Did you extrude faces to create the separate cubes? as you don’t even have the same model shape as that in the tutorial (notice the layout at the shoulders and hips). Also delete any duplicate vertices, select them all (A) and W / Remove Doubles. I’d start again following the tutorial step by step.
Ah, I see now. I was selecting the whole cube instead of the face. I’ll have to start over anyways, so I’m not making any more custom models till I get a hang of it.
Thank you Richard!
EDIT: Actually it was the double vertices that was causing my floating sphere situation.
I think you should read the tutorial again. The problem may be that you joined a bunch of small cubes instead of scaling a cube to form the shape of a body. Try reading the tutorial again.
