I’m using this .blend to learn about armatures, rigging, etc. I’m trying to modify a character’s mesh also. The hair behaves as expected when I try to move it’s vertices, edges or faces, to change it’s shape. However, the body, and rest of the mesh (attached to the armature) does not respond to attempts to modify the mesh in Edit mode.
Is there a reason for this that I am missing? a ‘lock’ command, or setting to be changed? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I’ve tried unsuccessfully to upload the .blend; it fails just before 100% complete.
The way armature works, it “influences” position of an associated vertex group. Vertex is not locked on to the bone. I can grab any vertex and move it anywhere. Bone just sits there.

The file is likely too big for this site’s upload capacity. If it is more than 3 MB but less than 30 you can upload it to www.pasteall.org/blend and give us the download link here. Otherwise you’ll have to fall back on dropbox or google drive or some such.
Thank you both, ridix and K Horseman. I appreciate your generous help. If you could look at the file, I’d appreciate it very much.
Ridix, I understand your comment. When I’m in Edit mode, select any vertice, edge, or face, I can’t move them.
The hair is a separate mesh object, and behaves in Edit mode, as one would expect.
K Horseman,
You solved it, the file was too large. Here’s the link for looking at it: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/33555
