I’m having trouble trying to get the 3D viewport to respond to my actions in 2.8. I can’t click on anything inside it, nor can I move it around. Would anyone know what the issue would be in this case?
With the default settings and default scene, can you select the cube and pan / move? Are you using LMB but the interface is set to RMB or vice-versa?
Have you recently installed add ons?
@colkai I have LMB as my default, I also don’t have a cube in the default scene as that’s how I have it set up
@markholley I have, but how does that affect the performance of the program?
And, are the add ons you installed from legitimate sources that you trust?
Ok, can you add a cube using shift+A then try moving? If you load up say a demo scene, does Blender behave? Trying to determine if it’s a setting in your UI that’s at issue. Normally a reset to factory defaults would be worth a shot. I tend to zip up my config folder before i do that, so if it makes no difference, i can drop back to what I had set up.
They should be. I got a few from here that shouldn’t be having this issue, like Rigacar.
@colkai I tried that, and I’m still unable to get it to react to anything. Heck, even the preferences windo isn’t working right.
Hmm, do you have 2.79 on your system? Does that work? If so, my gut instinct is that your system isn’t up to handing 2.80. What CPU/ graphics card do you run? If it’s integrated / Intel graphics or less that a 600 NVidia series, that may be the issue.
Honestly, the only thing that I’ve ever seen do this is when clever people put bad Python stuff into pirated add ons. I’m not saying that this applies here, and by what the OP has said it certainly isn’t the problem.
@Philmister978 If you can handle the bother of completely uninstalling Blender and reinstalling/re-configuring it, that might be the quickest way to go here. Since the problem seems to be due to an add on, you can try to enable them one by one to determine which one is causing the problem, then just uninstall/reinstall and avoid that add on in the future - maybe contact the add on’s dev to see if he or she knows about the error.
2.79 works perfectly fine with its corresponding plugins. I got a AMD Radeon RX 460 as my graphics card and again, it works perfectly fine.
@markholley I’ll see if that works, and if not, then I don’t know what it could be the issue.
Maybe an add on wasn’t ready for 2.80 and messed things up for you. Let us know how it works out.
Well I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. And I have the exact same issue.
And the funny thing is, I can still access everything else that isn’t in the 3D view or the Preferences window. At this point, I don’t know if it actually is my computer’s specs (which I doubt, as the program did work until recently), the fact I also have 2.79 installed or just a bug in the software itself.
(Also took a look, but I can’t even access the cycles renderer or the key mapping option in the preferences window)
I wish I knew what to tell you. I do know that, if you’re using Windows, Blender saves configuration files in folders that are buried a bit. I wonder if past configs were deleted when you uninstalled or if you were just uninstalling the program itself, and then the reinstallation just picked up your old configuration files and just continued right from the problem point you were at before.
If I knew that it would make a difference and if I was sure that it wouldn’t jack up your 2.79 installation, I’d say wipe any reference to Blender out and try one more time. Some of the config files are here:
C:\Users(your user name)\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.80\config
Where (your user name) is, of course, your user name. If you’re on Mac or Linux, you probably know more than I do about everything in the first place so you’ll be able to spot any “leftover config” stuff better than I would.
Alternately, I wonder what would happen if you just deleted those things.
Best wishes - if anyone else has any ideas, please chime in.
Yeah, I did that and it works fine now.
