I’ve tried every way to bake a normal map but they all turn out to be garbage, if someone could show me how’s it done that would be fantastic! i’m trying to make a normal map that makes the low poly look smooth.
i do not see anything in the blend about baking a normal map from a hi poly count mesh to a low res mesh .
There’s only one object. If you want to bake from a hi-poly to a low-poly, there should be at least two.
Select your object, space bar, search for “Shade Smooth”.
Then in your Object Data properties, enable “Auto Smooth” and set the number underneath it to something like 60º
This will give your model a nice, smooth result:
If you want more detail in the model (scratches on the metal, a crack in the handle), then make a copy of your object and use Dynamic Topology Sculpting to do some detail work on it, then bake the normal map. You’ll find lots of tutorials online for baking normals from a hi-poly object to a low-poly one.
