Can't see DXF or 3DS models once imported

Hello,

I am a new user to Blender, so please forgive me if the question seems simplistic http://www.blender.org/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I am trying to setup a model based on some DXF and 3DS files that I am importing. I do not receive an error on import, but I can not see the models when viewing them on the 3D Viewport.

How can I view the imported meshes?

I searched around for similar issues, but could not find an adequate solution. Here are the details:

Blender v2.42
DXF model: http://www.mapjunction.com/places/Boston_BRA/downloads/cadfootprints.zip
3DS model:
http://www.cityofboston.gov/bra/BRA_3D_Models/Financial-District-Buildings.3DS

One thing that I did check was the type of units used. Based on the inofrmation from the main site, the coordinate system is the “Massachusetts Mainland State Plane Feet, NAD1983”.

I am not clear on the specifics, but a quick google search brought this up:
http://www.amherst.edu/it/software/gis/gis-finding-data/#Procedure1:DeterminetheSpatialReferenceofaLayer

I have tried:

  1. Changing the zoom factor in the current 3D viewport. Zooming out and zooming in all the way does not help.

  2. Selecting all the meshes and scaling the meshes to something more reasonable. When viewing the statistics (“n”), the dimensions are about 10,000 for x and 10,000 for y for the DXF model. I changed the scale factor for x and y to .001, which brought the dimensions to roughly 10. I still could not see any model. I understand the DXF is 2-Dimensional, but I still cannot see anything.

  3. Verified that the meshes were part of the scene

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey,

I resolved this problem. The models were very small, not very large as I originally thought.

Here are the steps I took. (Still getting used to Blender)

  1. I selected all of the objects (“a”)
  2. I then pressed “home” to view all
  3. I then shift-mmb to center on the very small object way off center
  4. I zoomed by a large factor. I didn’t realize that the models were small. I kept thinking that the model was to large.
  5. I now have the model!
