Feeling really stupid here… I have what looks like a face on this model that I can’t select. When I try and select it in face selection mode it just selects faces behind it. There is no dot in the middle indicating it is a face either.
Can anyone help me delete this? Here is a screenshot of what I’m looking at. http://i.imgur.com/skxkmIU.png

Looks like its a hole, not a face. Or it is portion of one big face and its dot mark is center of that big face, not center of that portion.
Your Outliner shows just one object and that is in edit mode. Numbering however suggests that you had several cubes before.
Parts of your image shows that you still have geometry from those previous cubes present - that is what you see. What is not so trivial - this face should be selectable and is big compared to visible. Select smaller ones and H hide them to see what’s behind.
