can't start blender

Hi:

I have installed the latest versions of Blender in both Windows XP and Red Hat Linux 9 (taroon). It was working in Windows, but now Blender crashes everytime I click on the render button (always crashed in Linux)…

I have a Radeon 7500, and have the latest drivers installed in XP, and in Linux am using xfree86 4.3, and DRI.

I get the following errors:

In Windows XP:
AppName: blender.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: atioglxx.dll
ModVer: 6.13.10.3036 Offset: 001baa8e

In Linux:
blender: radeon_vtxfmt.c:1061: radeonVtxfmtUnbindContext: Assertion `vb.context == ctx’ failed.
Aborted

I had the program working initially in Windows, but for some reason it won’t work anymore. Tried installing, and reinstalling, tried older version, tried the static version for linux; same errors.

I reinstalled my ATI drivers under Windows XP…

And I came across this article which looked promising:

I could only find the .Bfont file though in the program directory.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

Have you filed a bug report at blender.org?

hmm…

both systems/OS’es?

sounds to me that it is some kind of hardware error…

maybe something bad about the ATI videocard?

did you know that Blender must have 100% fully working OpenGL drivers (or compatible, maybe MESA) for it to be drawned or used correct?

Ztonzy’s right. In your windowz report the atioglxx.dll is the dll used for open GL by ATI that’s causing the problem.

Did you try using the DispView option instead of DispWin? (in the Display buttons window, F10)
